Consone String Quartet play Mozart and the man known as the 'Spanish Mozart'

Redditch Editorial 18th Nov, 2023

THE CONSONE String Quartet return to Leamington next month.

The quartet will be bringing favourites from Mozart (Quartet in G K387), Mendelssohn (Theme & Variations and Capriccio Op 81), and Beethoven (Quartet in F minor Op 95 ‘Serioso’).

And alongside these well-known works they will perform Quartet No 2 by Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga – who was only 20 when he died in 1826 and who is often referred to as the “Spanish Mozart”.

The first period instrument string quartet to be selected as BBC New Generation Artists, the Consone Quartet is fast making a name for its honest and expressive interpretations of classical and romantic repertoire.

Formed at the Royal College of Music in London, the Consone Quartet launched their professional career in 2015, shortly after which they were awarded two prizes at the 2015 York Early Music International Young Artists Competition.

They went on to win the 2016 Royal Over-Seas League Ensemble Prize, and in 2022 were awarded a prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust (BBT) fellowship.

Leamington Music’s artistic director, Helen Beecroft, said: “It is wonderful to have the Consone Quartet back again – they receive such an enthusiastic reception each time They play the Royal Spa Centre on Friday December 1.
