Kingfishers face do or die in relegation fight

Redditch Editorial 4th Sep, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016

REDDITCH Entaco’s fight to avoid relegation from Worcestershire League Division One reaches do-or-die tomorrow (Saturday).

Entaco head into tomorrow’s away encounter at Colwall needing maximum points to stand any chance of avoiding the drop.

Last weekend’s showdown at Pedmore saw the home side take the points with an emphatic six-wickets victory.

Batting first the Kingfishers got off to a flying start, thanks to opener Greg Chinn who hit a quickfire 54.

But from a position of 65 for one off nine overs the Kingfishers hit the self-destruct button and collapsed to 147 all out, only Jack Roberson managed to halt the demise with 50 not out.

Redditch needed early wickets and Waqas Ali obliged with a wicket first ball but Pedmore bounced back with Dave Skelding hitting an excellent 64 to steer his side to their target in just 25 overs.

One bright success for Redditch was teenager Kevin Lokenath, making his first team debut, chipping in with 2/30.

More frustration for the Kingfishers saw Monday’s home fixture against Hagley abandoned without a ball being bowled.
