Alvechurch ready for title decider

Redditch Editorial 11th Sep, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016

ALVECHURCH & Hopwood’s title aspirations will be decided when they visit fellow contenders Himbleton in tomorrow’s (Saturday) final game of the season.

Alvechurch’s seven-wicket win against Rushwick last weekend left them seven points clear of Chaddesley Corbett at the top of Division Three in the Worcestershire League and 12 ahead of Himbleton.

Another victory would secure the title and a place in Division Two, but defeat could cost them the crown and promotion.

There were no such dramas against visitors Rushwick. The hosts put Rushwick into bat and dismissed them for 143 after 46.5 overs. Christian Battelley was again in devastating form, taking 4-50 off 17 overs, while Andrew Evans (2-12), Dan Wolstencroft (2-33) and Mike Reuben (2-42) were the other wicket-takers.

In reply, Alvechurch reached their target in just the 22nd over at 146-3. Openers Adam Markham-Hones (47) and Matt Hayward (48) just missed out on half centuries but they set the foundation for Edd Rogers (24) and Nick Jones (10no) to push them past their target.
