Davies sees the positives despite Feckenham defeat

Redditch Editorial 17th Nov, 2016

FECKENHAM assistant manager Tom Davies remained upbeat after watching the Millers endure a frustrating 1-0 home defeat to mid-table rivals Sutton United in Midland League Division Two on Saturday.

Kieran Deakin’s goal on the stroke of half time proved enough to end Aaron Blackwood’s side’s five-match unbeaten run and, whilst the hosts felt the goal should have been ruled out due to an infringement, it was nevertheless a deserved lead for the visitors.

However, a resurgent Millers side dominated the second half and, but for some last-ditch defending and good goalkeeping, may have got back on level terms.

The influential Jack Brimmell had another very good afternoon and came close to equalising, as did substitute George Tolley.

United had a player dismissed midway through the second half when he handled just out side the box when it looked like Brimmell was free on goal, before the hosts’ Jordan Adams headed against the crossbar late on.

There was still time for Feckenham’s Jamie Firkin to see his looping header cleared off the line, but the hosts finished empty-handed.

Davies said: “We started slowly with Sutton taking control of the game and fortunately we were only 1-0 down at the break.

“I thought we looked like the better side after half time. The red card had another impact on the game and it became a match played in one half of the pitch.

“We came close on occasions and on another day could have taken them (the chances), but congratulations to Sutton on a hard fought three points.”

Meanwhile, Millers right back Jordan Porter has this week departed to join Division Three outfit Inkberrow.

The 22-year-old joined Feckenham at the start of the 2015/16 season as he followed manager Blackwood from West Midlands Regional League outfit Bartley Green Illey.

Feckenham face another mid-table team on Saturday when they visit Bloxwich Town.
