Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake returns to Birmingham stage

Redditch Editorial 1st Feb, 2019 Updated: 1st Feb, 2019

MATTHEW Bourne’s Swan Lake is taking to the Hippodrome stage once again with its convention defying, male ensemble.

Preserving the iconic elements of the original loved by millions, Bourne, along with set designers Lez Brotherston and Paule Constable, has created a re-imagining of the classic production.

Best known for replacing the female corps-de-ballet with a menacing male ensemble, the production took the dance world by storm, collecting some 30 international accolades.

Bourne’s powerful interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece is a passionate and contemporary Swan Lake for our times.

Ahead of the performance on Friday February 8, there will be a special ‘curtain raiser’ which will see young people, aged 16 to 19, dancing on the main stage.

This gives young people the opportunity to work alongside professional dancers and choreographers in creating a piece of unique work to be performed in a large scale venue such as the Hippodrome.

Swan Lake returns to Birmingham Hippodrome from Tuesday 5 to Saturday February 16 with tickets from £21.
