Mental health specialists recruited to support rough sleepers

Redditch Editorial 19th May, 2019

MENTAL health support aims to help get rough sleepers in Warwickshire off the street.

Warwickshire County Council is funding two mental health specialists – seconded for two years from Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust – to join the county’s street outreach team.

The team is provided by charity P3 which helps vulnerable people. Other support provided by P3 includes accommodation, access to drug and alcohol treatment, healthcare and help with benefits.

P3 spokeswoman Esther Barrett said: “The secondment of two mental health specialists will not only help us provide much needed mental health support for vulnerable people living on the streets within our community, it will also raise our street outreach team’s profile with aligned healthcare professionals.

“Crucially it will enable people who are street homeless to receive the right medical interventions at the right time.”

Those concerned about someone sleeping rough in Warwickshire can email P3 at [email protected] or call 0808 164 6220.
