Brewing up to banish the January blues

Redditch Editorial 21st Jan, 2020

SAMARITANS across south Warwickshire were brewing up to help commuters banish the blues this week.

Volunteers handed out teabags at Leamington, Stratford, Warwick Town and Warwick Parkway train stations in a bid to cheer up commuters on ‘Blue Monday’ – so-called as by January 20 many New Year resolutions have failed, credit card bills need paying and the dark winter days seem to go on forever.

The Samaritans hope those who take the teabags will use them to have a cup of tea and a chat with anyone going through a hard time.

Director of Stratford Samaritans Phil Cazaly said: “Health, family, work, relationships and money issues can be making life really tough for some people, so can loneliness, isolation, anxiety and depression.

“We hope our ‘Brew Monday’ will make people think about taking time out to listen to other people over a cup of tea. Everyone needs someone to talk to when life gets them down.”
