Coronavirus: Artists inspired by current crisis

Redditch Editorial 23rd Mar, 2020

WITH theatres and cinemas being closed and events all over our area being cancelled, artists have been responding to the current crisis in many different ways.

We’ve heard of local groups live-streaming music and performance just to reach audiences isolated at home. Some are just taking the unexpected enforced break to try to catch a snapshot of the coronavirus world.

The Observer’s own amateur dauber Matthew Salisbury got his brushes out to paint this reaction to the stockpiling madness of the current times.

The painting is an obvious nod to the pop art work of Andy Warhol, replacing the face of Marilyn Monroe with something which has become a bit of a sought-after cultural icon in recent weeks – the toilet roll.

We’d love to hear from groups coming up with ways to keep the flame of creativity burning in these dark times.

Whatever you’re trying to do to fill the time please share it with us on our Facebook page for others to see.
