A cry for help: The silent solution for domestic abuse sufferers

Redditch Editorial 4th Jun, 2020 Updated: 4th Jun, 2020

WEST Mercia Police are highlighting domestic abuse in a video created by West Mercia Women’s Aid, to highlight the ‘Silent Solution’ for those calling 999 who are in danger but unable to speak.

The video demonstrates how you can press 55 at a certain point in the call to let the call taker know you need help but aren’t able to talk and walks the viewer through the process.

The force is sharing the video across all of its social media channels to help spread the message that help is available if that call is made.

Detective Sergeant Sharon Wallace-Rathmell of Vulnerability and Safeguarding said: “We hope this video will be shared far and wide in order to raise awareness of the options for those suffering domestic abuse or people who are in dangerous situations and cannot speak. Please help us to help vulnerable people by sharing the video.”
