Two festivals debut at Warwick Arts Centre this autumn

THIS week sees the launch of two debut festivals at Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry – one arts, the other jazz.

Change Festival (October 18-20) invites audiences to look on the bright side and imagine living better, dressing better, eating better and feeling better, aided by artists, speakers and performers. There will be panel discussions on renewable energy, well-being, fashion, food and nature, as well as family shows such as The Bird Show for ages 4-7 years, comedy, special walks, interactive theatre and film.

Highlights include The World We Made, a story told by two students in 2050 offering a glimpse into the future (Friday October 18), Tongue Fu, one of the UK’s leading spoken word shows (Friday October 18), collaborative experience People’s Palace of Possibility (Sunday October 20) and a stage adaptation of Sarah Waters’ best-selling The Night Watch, set in 1940s London adapted by Olivier-nominated playwright Hattie Naylor.

From The Source (November 8-10) is a new jazz festival which includes performances from composer/ producer Nitin Sawhney celebrating the 20th anniversary of his Beyond Skin and A Change Is Gonna Come: Music For Human Rights, featuring Carleen Anderson, jazz virtuoso’s Nikki Yeoh and Camilla George, plus rising West-Midlands rapper Lady Sanity, who will explore the power of Civil Rights protest songs, along with new material.

Watch out too for cutting-edge mini-series Portraits (November 13-15), which brings together three urgent shows about identity, power, race, trans politics, gender, sexuality, society and life in Queens Of Sheba, Pink Lemonade, and Travis Alabanza’s Burgerz.
