A CONVICTED county rapist has had his sentence increased following intervention by the Solicitor General, Rt Hon Michael Ellis QC MP
James Boyles, of Upton, was sentenced to four years in jail and given a sexual harm prevention order during a hearing at Worcester Crown Court in September.
Following a referral to the Court of Appeal by the Solicitor General the sentence was found to be unduly lenient and the 69-year-old has now been jailed for six years.
The 69-year-old admitted two counts of rape, one of attempted rape and one of sexual assault between September 2004 and 2011.
The hearing in August heard how he raped a sleeping woman on a number of occasions and filmed the assaults.
When police searched his computer, they found Boyles had filmed another woman while she slept using a hidden camera.
Police also found that Boyles had downloaded and made several indecent images of children. The pensioner was convicted of 15 sexual offences in total.
Speaking after the hearing, the Solicitor General said: “The sickening behaviour of the offender should be met with the full force of the law.
“The Court of Appeal has rightly increased his sentence.”
