THE NUMBER of trustees running Solihull Community Housing could be reduced from 12 members to 10, after resignations last year.
Solihull Council are considering formally reducing the board of trustees for the group which manages social housing in the borough.
The ‘arms-length management organisation’ SCH originally had 15 members – five councillors, five independent members and five tenants.
But the housing association brought the board down to 12 trustees in 2013, and now plans to sit with three councillors, three independent trustees and three tenants from next year.
In a statement to Solihull Council’s cabinet, Solihull Community Housing said: “The SCH Board considered the most appropriate and effective size of the Board at an Away Day in January 2019 and this was further considered at the full Board meeting on February 25 2019, the Human Resources & Remuneration Committee on 11 March 2019 and full Board on 20 May 2019… A number of other ALMO’s have reduced the size of their Boards and SCH had been operating with a reduced number of members without any cause for concern.
“The Board believes this would enable better governance in that a smaller board is able to bring more focus and streamlined discussion thus enabling it to function to a higher standard and make more timely decisions. This is in line with general good governance guidelines including from bodies such as the Institute of directors.”
The council’s cabinet meets tomorrow (December 5) to discuss the proposal.
