A DOCTOR has ditched his scrubs for decks and is using music to lift colleagues’ spirits.
Frontline doctor and former Warwick School head boy Kishan Bodalia recorded a set in his scrubs after a busy night shift when lockdown began.
The 25-year-old said morale was at an all-time low and posted the ‘NHSessions’ video on social media to cheer up his colleagues.
But it was a hit overnight, with support from celebrities and BBC Radio One making Kishan their ‘Hero of the Day’.
Kishan – who works at a hospital in Birmingham and lives in Coventry – did not even stop recording his dj sets when he caught coronavirus and had to self isolate for two weeks.
He told the Observer: “Early on during the pandemic I began to realise how morale was reaching an all-time low. Working on a respiratory ward and across A&E, myself and my colleagues were facing both physical and emotional challenges. I decided to launch NHSessions to bring a smile to my colleagues and friends closest to me.
“It was having an amazing impact around the world, I was overwhelmed by the support so I kept going.
And while Kishan says work as a doctor is currently difficult, he has been ‘privileged’ to go to work and support the NHS.
He added: “Seeing patients deteriorate so quickly is heartbreaking. Often I feel helpless, however I have the support of an incredible team at work and our consultants have always been available, helping us get through difficult times.
“I have felt privileged to be able to go to work and see my colleagues – who I consider my friends. I can’t fully appreciate what it has been like for those stuck at home in isolation. I launched NHSessions to bring everyone together, through music and creativity, in order to lift spirits of those stuck at home in isolation and to celebrate the hard work of our key workers.”
