VOLUNTEERS from Jaguar Landrover have helped to renovate a Solihull junior school’s wildlife pond used for outdoor learning.
Sharmans Cross Junior School in Sharmans Cross Road, Solihull officially celebrated the re-opening of the pond last Friday.
Volunteers from the automotive company worked over a two-day period to dredge and reline the school pond which was in need of repair. They also constructed a large outdoor covered area near the pond area were children can shelter from the elements.
Gemma Snowden, who coordinated the project, said: “The children are thrilled to have their much-loved pond up-and-running.
“The covered area will benefit our outdoor learning lessons as it will enable us to shelter from the elements.
“We go out in all weathers although the children do not seem to mind the rain at all.
“JLR worked so hard over the two days that we are tremendously grateful for the work they have done.
“There has been a lot documented about how working in the outdoors and with nature benefits us all in a variety of ways and we are proud of our Outdoor learning curriculum.
“Every child visits the area each term linking their curriculum lessons with nature and the world around them.”
Headteacher Sara Wilkes said: “Sharmans Cross PTA funded the project with money from their popular fundraising activities throughout the school year, something that the school values highly as they work so hard to provide great events that our families enjoy while being a vital source of funding for our school.”
