Loving family hold memorial exhibition for artist mum

Redditch Editorial 8th May, 2019 Updated: 8th May, 2019

A LOVING family are remembering their late mum and wife through her artwork.

Jan Taylor, a former Leamington teacher, passed away from cancer shortly before Christmas.

Her daughters Kate King and Susie Simons and husband Brian Taylor are holding a memorial art exhibition to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Shakespeare Hospice which cared for Jan during her last days.

Before embarking on her teaching career in the UK, Jan spent time in Ghana, which had a cultural influence on her sculpture work.

She went on to hold workshops for festival-goers in Glastonbury, where some of her ceramic work went on display.

The family’s tribute to the artist read: “Jan was always surprised that people were willing to pay gallery priced figures for her work. To her, they were naive and simple, but to those who encounter them they are striking and strong. She would have shied away from showing her art in an exhibition like this, but it’s our hope that it allows all to appreciate the talent she had, and in the process, to raise money for the cancer charities that helped care for her.”

The exhibition is being held in Rowington Village Hall on Sunday May 12 from 10am to 4pm. Or visit uk.virginmoneygiving.com/JanTaylor to donate to the family’s cause.
