MP calls on business owners to have their say about rates

Redditch Editorial 12th Aug, 2020

BUSINESS owners in Solihull can put their views on business rates direct to ministers under a survey launched by MP Saqib Bhatti.

Meriden MP Mr Bhatti says he is gauging opinion on rates during the Treasury’s business rates consultation over the summer.

The Business Rates Survey will collect the views of local businesses on the current rates system and on possible ideas for reform.

Mr Bhatti said: “I welcome the Treasury’s consultation to consider improvements to the business rates system.

“Throughout my career in business and as former President of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, I know that the current system of business rates can be onerous.

“Since being elected, I have had many conversations with local businesses and constituents who would like to see reform and as the MP for Meriden, I want our

local businesses to be at the forefront of any policy discussions.

“As we examine the economic impact of Covid-19, I believe that we must create the best conditions for business to thrive and this consultation will play a big part in that.

“That is why I am calling on all local businesses in my constituency (and beyond) to participate in my survey on business rates reform, I want to hear your views on how

we can make this a better system for you”.

If you are a local business owner in Meriden, a stakeholder or are interested in shaping a new business rates system, you can complete the Business Rates Survey
