A NURSE from Warwick is preparing to tackle new heights for a charity very close to her heart.
Toni McKeaney is set to take on a six-day trek up the Himalaya mountains in Nepal to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital in April.
The 47-year-old worked for the hospital for seven years and will join a former colleague to help support sick children and their families.
The mum-of-two said she had a passion for walking, and past fund-raisers – including the ‘Moonwalk’ for breast cancer – had proved a helpful warm up for the gruelling challenge ahead.
She told the Observer: “I’ve been preparing with lots of walking. I’ve had some trips to the Malverns to get a few hills in as they are more difficult to find in Warwick.
“I’m bursting with anticipation at this pending challenge but with a bit of trepidation at what may be involved.
“It certainly is an adventure of a lifetime.”
Toni is aiming to raise £1,600.
