ONLY two people have been convicted of revenge porn offences in West Mercia since the law came into force last year.
Figures released by West Mercia police within a Freedom of information request showed only 36 offences have been recorded under the new law, to disclose private sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress.
The first person in Worcestershire was convicted on September 25, 2015 and only one other offender has been sentenced since then.
He was given five weeks in prison for publishing explicit images of the victim, and causing £1,000 worth of damage to his his ex-girlfriend’s car in what the District Judge called ‘despicable and contemptible’.
So far there have been convictions this year and police are urging victims to come forward and report any incidents.
