SQUIRRELS have been sharpening up on history at Charlecote Park.
Bosses at the grade I-listed National Trust property near Wellesbourne are looking to ‘squirrel-proof’ sculptures after discovering they were using them to sharpen their teeth on.
A spokesman said: “We’ve been wondering what has been damaging our collection.
“The statues in Green Court have been attacked by squirrels. They’ve been using the statues to sharpen their teeth and have taken nearly the whole tail off the dog statue.
“We don’t think the squirrels swallow the nibbled shavings so there’s no immediate health implications, but we are looking at how to restore the statues and how to squirrel proof them.”
The historic parkland is home to plenty of wildlife including herds of deer, sheep, woodpeckers, bats and hedgehogs, to name a few.
