Sunflowers shine a light on Shipston Home Nursing

Redditch Editorial 14th Oct, 2021

BOTH spirits and charity funds were raised thanks to a pick your own sunflowers service in Kineton.

The scheme at Lodge Farm brought in over £5,000 for local charities, Shipston Home Nursing (SHN) and Cyclists Fighting Cancer this summer.

Visitors were invited to pick a sunflower for 50p per stem, from a field of flowers.

And people flocked in their hundreds throughout August and September to gather armfuls of them.

SHN Fund-raising head Rebecca Mawle said: “The field of sunflowers was stunning – such an uplifting sight for visitors and passers-by. We are so grateful to Jilly and Chris at Lodge Farm for their extraordinary dedication and extremely hard work for a month, baking cakes to sell with hot drinks and manning the sales of their sunflowers. I know Emma was on-hand to help also.

“We rely on the support of the local community to help us continue to run our vital services, which are all free to those living in our geographical area.”

The charity cares for patients with illnesses which do not respond to curative treatment and who wish to be nursed at home.
