Thugs jailed after 'sickening' Ryton attack

TWO THUGS who launched a ‘sickening’ attack on a man at a party in Ryton have been jailed.

The attack followed a row between people attending two different parties at a sports centre in the village in December.

The victim – a man in his 20s – was knocked unconscious.

The two men continued to kick and stamp on him as he lay on the ground. He suffered serious injuries to his face.

Jay Paul Drage, 20, of Warwick Road, Wolston, and Dale McCarthy, 19, of Montague Road, Rugby, both pleaded guilty to affray.

Drage was sentenced to 12 months in prison and McCarthy to nine months.

Det Con Steve Mobbs said: “This was a sickening attack on a man which continued when he was clearly unconscious. Drage and McCarthy can count themselves lucky the consequences were not much worse.”
