Urgent appeal launched for hotel rooms across Worcestershire for recovering COVID-19 patients

Redditch Editorial 30th Mar, 2020

HOTEL rooms across the county are urgently needed to help recovering patients during the coronavirus pandemic.

Worcestershire County Council needs a total of 300 rooms, although 150 have already been found and booked.

The rooms are needed for people who can leave hospital but need assessment for social care.

They will provide a safe place to recuperate and personal care will be arranged if needed.

Hotels which are interested should have a minimum of 20 en-suite rooms and be able to provide services such as housekeeping, laundry, catering and have lifts.

Stourport Manor, The Elms Hotel & Spa and Cadmore Lakeside have already volunteered to help.

Nick Ferguson, director of Cadmore Lakeside, said: “Helping our wonderful NHS to clear beds was the obvious way we could help.

“Everyone needs to think about how they can contribute.”

Coun Karen May, cabinet member with responsibility for transformation and commissioning at the County Council, said she is grateful to the three hotels which have already agreed to offer their services.

“Our priority remains keeping Worcestershire residents safe and providing social care to those who need support and help.”

The council is willing to book rooms for up to 3 months.

Those using the rooms are not expected to need nursing care and are predicted to need to stay for around 5-10 days.
