Worcestershire schools put in safety measures ahead of A-level results this Thursday

Redditch Editorial 12th Aug, 2020

SCHOOLS across Worcestershire will open their doors for students to collect their A-level results this Thursday, August 13.

Safety procedures will include social distancing, hand washing and parents waiting outside school while students collect their results.

Government guidance also confirms that A-level results will not be released to students until 8am, rather than 6am in previous years.

Following the cancellation of the summer 2020 exams due to coronavirus, students will be provided with calculated grades this year to enable them to progress to further study or employment.

Exam boards have been working on grades to ensure consistency of judgement between different schools and colleges, using a model developed with the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual).

County Councillor for education, Marcus Hart, said: “Receiving exam results are a key milestone for many young people’s lives and this year will be marked by the exceptional experience and sacrifice that they have made as part of the response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This is a time for making big decisions about what to do next. Whether that is remaining in education, starting an apprenticeship or entering into employment, it is important to know that there are lots of different options and support available.

“If students don’t receive the results they were hoping for, the Department for Education has announced that there will be an opportunity for students to sit exams in the autumn.”

Careers Worcs are running two webinars following exam results days for students who have not received the grades they were expecting, or for those who are still unsure of the pathway they would like to take in September.

The webinars will take place on Wednesday, August 19 and Monday, August 24.
