Astwood Bank keep their Lord's ambitions alive

ASTWOOD Bank are just three wins away from a dream visit to Lord’s after defeating hosts Newtown Linford in the Davidstow National Village Cup fifth round on Sunday.

Bank won the toss and put the home side into bat and the decision was soon justified as Tom Harris (3-28) ripped through the top order, reducing the Leicestershire side to 52-4.

However, an excellent unbeaten 71 from Daniel Brown inspired a home recovery and, despite 2-37 from Tom Shepherd, the hosts posted a respectable 183-7 off their 40 overs.

After slipping to 36-2, Bank found themselves with some work to do, but Ryan Blakemore (40) and Andy Williams (61no) were up to the task and the latter was joined by Shepherd whose breezy 22 not out helped finish the job as the visitors reached 185-6 in the 39th over.

Bank will now host fellow Birmingham League Division Three outfit Pelsall on Sunday, July 12 as they bid to keep marching on towards a date at the home of cricket.

BANK suffered a heavy eight-wicket at home to C&R Hawks as their stuttering Birmingham League Division Three form continued on Saturday.

Batting frailties have been a concern for the Sambourne Lane club in recent weeks and they continued as only captain Steve Adshead (24) made a score above 20 in a total of 91 all out inside 29 overs, before the second placed visitors eased to 95-2 in just 10.2 overs in reply.

Adshead’s side, who are tenth in the table, visit eighth placed Worfield in Shropshire on Saturday.

STUDLEY host Southam in Warwickshire League Division One on Saturday on the back of a thrilling one-wicket victory in a key game at fellow high-flyers Knowle Village last time out.

The defeated hosts remain top of the table after their setback but third placed Studley are now just four points behind them, with Coleshill sandwiched in between the sides in second spot.

Studley dismissed Knowle Village for 191 before sealing a crucial 20 points by reaching 192-9 in reply as both Brandon Miller and Simon Stamenkovic made 59.
