New Moors recruit Maycock brings Football League experience

Redditch Editorial 10th Aug, 2020

SOLIHULL Moors have completed the signing of midfielder Callum Maycock, who has put pen to paper on a one-year deal.

Born in Birmingham, Maycock was given a first team opportunity by Coventry City after initially joining the club as an apprentice in 2014.

The 22-year-old made his professional debut for the Sky Blues in November 2016, coming on as a substitute in a 1-1 FA Cup draw with Morecambe.

He played 32 times whilst on loan at League Two side Macclesfield Town in 2018/19, before playing regularly for Leamington in National League North last season.

Maycock departed League One Champions Coventry in June following the expiry of his contract, with 12 senior appearances to his name.

His new destination is the SportNation.bet Stadium and Maycock said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to sign for the club. It’s a great club and place to sign. It didn’t take much for me to sign as I was pretty sure I wanted to come here.

“I know Jimmy (Shan) from years ago when I was at Birmingham. I knew I wanted to play under him because of his style of play and I’d like to be involved in that.

“I’ve heard the support here is great so I’m just excited to start.”

Manager Shan added: “Cal is a highly competitive, athletic midfielder. He is a bit of everything, has a great mentality to press and recover the ball and also good technical ability and range of pass.

“Cal comes to us highly recommended by the staff at Coventry City. He is a young, local, ambitious lad with League One and Two football on his CV.

“He is another player whom has had several interest, so we are delighted to have him on board.”
