Cast your vote in Youth Commissioner election

Redditch Editorial 11th Nov, 2023

VOTING for the next Youth Commissioners across the West Midlands is now open.

Young people from across the region are encouraged to have their say and help shape who will represent them in holding the police to account.

The Youth Commissioners’ role will be to advise the Police and Crime Commissioner on issues affecting children and teenagers.

A total of 16 Youth Commissioners will be elected across the region, representing all the areas in the West Midlands, including Coventry, Solihull, Birmingham, Dudley, Sandwell, Wolverhampton and Walsall.

Any young person aged 13 to 18, living in the West Midlands, will be able to cast two votes, one for each of their two preferred candidates in their area.

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster said: “Voting is now open for my next intake of Youth Commissioners, allowing our young people to have their say on who represents them.

“The Youth Commissioners play a crucial role in helping me keep young people safe.

“They will support me, by keeping me informed about the concerns and views of their generation.

“I want to wish all applicants the best of luck with their campaigns, and I look forward to welcoming our successful candidates.”

Voting is all online, and can be done by visiting mi-vote.com/secure/wmpcc to register.

Voting closes on November 19.
