Police hunting for witnesses to Sainsbury's pile-up

Redditch Editorial 24th Nov, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman was left with serious injuries after being caught up in a four-car pile-up while she walked through the Sainsbury’s car park in Redditch.

The incident happened at about 5.30pm on Wednesday (November 18) at the Abbey Retail Park, when a blue BMW was involved in a crash with a red Polo which then collided with the pedestrian, in her fifties. The Polo then went on to smash into a Peugeot 307 and a Citroen C4 which were both parked.

The BMW crossed the mini island towards the main exit from the retail park and came to stop against a metal railing.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene and sealed off the A448 entrance into the supermarket while firefighters rescued the occupants of the cars. The woman was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital while the drivers of the polo and BMW were treated by paramedics on site.

Police are urging anyone with information to call them on the non emergency 101 number or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
