MONEY raised from reckless drivers will be used to boost road safety schemes in Warwickshire.
The county’s police chief has announced a £500,000 fund for initiatives tackling road safety in a bid to reduce road deaths and injuries.
The cash has been raised from driver safety and speeding awareness courses – meaning those who break the law will fund schemes to tackle anti-social and dangerous driving.
It comes after 35 people were killed and 320 seriously injured on Warwickshire roads in 2018.
Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe said: “I am determined to reduce these numbers and ensure that our county is as safe as it can be for all road users and pedestrians.
“The police, fire and rescue services, local authorities and community safety partnerships already play a key role in road safety but I want to encourage even more to be done and find innovative projects that can make a real difference.
“I am keen to encourage the public, road safety organisations and voluntary groups to come forward with their suggestions for how it can be spent.”
Successful bids will be innovative, adding to the work done by the police, fire and rescue, and local authorities.
