Weather warning issued for heavy rain across Worcestershire

Redditch Editorial 1st Jan, 2024

THE MET Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain across Worcestershire.

According to the forecast, it will start around 3pm this afternoon. Then there is an 80 per cent chance of rain, rising to 95 per cent from 5pm.

That band of rain is expected to last until the early hours of tomorrow morning.

But, the warning is in place until 9pm tomorrow (Tuesday, January 2) with more expected to fall between 9am and 3pm.

The rain is then still expected to fall but will ease off.

The Met Office says, there could also be a chance of high winds – a warning for that is in place between 8am and 9pm tomorrow.

What is expected to happen?

The Met Office warns flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible and spray and flooding on roads could potentially make journey times longer.

People should check if their property is at risk of flooding and, if so, prepare a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.

Residents should also give themselves the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending travel plans if necessary.

It added, people cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance – consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.
