Alcester eyeing a promotion push

Redditch Editorial 1st Jul, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016

ALCESTER RFC returned to pre-season training last night (Thursday) at their Kings Coughton ground as they prepare for life in Midlands Five West (South) in the 2014/15 season, which kicks-off in September.

With most of last season’s squad preparing for action again, and with some returning from injury, hopes are high for a much-improved campaign this time around and a potential promotion push.

The club are still on the lookout for new players of all ages and abilities to bolster the squad, which will be running fixtures on Saturdays for their two senior sides and the planned occasional veterans XV.

Sunday junior training begins again formally at the end of August, but in the meantime touch rugby is continuing to be held on Thursday evenings and this will carry on alongside the senior training (7pm).

Alcester run junior sides from ages seven upwards and interested players/parents can contact the club for more information or press officer Andy Flynn on 07923 436184 or at [email protected].

Following the recent AGM, Jack Green has taken over as club skipper for the forthcoming campaign, in the only major change to those in senior roles at the club.

Last season’s committee continue for another term, with Pete Goddard as chairman, Pete O’Dell as treasurer, Steve Marchant as secretary and Dave Marriott as director of rugby, filling the main positions.

President Courtney Wells has accepted the committee’s invitation to continue for a second year in office.
