Beth revels in UK Sportshall Finals success

Liam Moakes 19th Apr, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016

UNDER 15 Birchfield Harrier Beth Lloyd enjoyed a great day at the UK Sportshall Finals in Manchester on Sunday when she scooped a hatful of medals and helped Team Birmingham to overall victory in the under 15 girls’ age group.

Redditch athlete Beth had qualified for Manchester as a result of her fantastic efforts at the West Midlands Regional Sportshall Finals in which she became regional champion in the under 15 girls’ four-lap race and eight-lap paarlauf, whilst she also claimed a bronze medal in the shot put and was runner-up in the regional all-rounder category.

Beth headed to the north west keen to represent Birmingham once again and, despite being one of the youngest in the field, she did not disappoint.

She began with the shot put competition in which she achieved a bronze medal with a personal best of 11.19m.

Beth then put in a strong performance in the four-lap race against some very tough competition to claim a bronze medal before competing in the eight-lap paarlauf with her team-mate Mary Takwoingi and a fantastic run by both athletes saw them secure gold medals.

It was a marvellous occasion for the Birmingham under 15 girls’ team who were crowned UK Sportshall champions 2016.

Earlier this year Beth competed in the UK Combined Indoor Championships in Sheffield where, among a strong field of 57 girls, she finished in a fantastic 12th place and also won the Midland Counties bronze medal.
