REDDITCH Swimming Club’s Paul Wilkes won two gold medals at the Arena European Masters Championships in London.
Competing at the London 2012 Olympics pool, Wilkes won the 100m and 200m butterfly events in the 30 to 34-year age group.
Wilkes, current holder of the British short course record for the 200m fly in this age group, won the 100m fly in a time of 56.98secs and the 200m fly in 2:20.45.
Two other Redditch swimmers also competed at the European Championships.
Laura Cranshaw (25-29 years) finished 19th in the 100m breaststroke and Jo Alexander (45-49 years) was 73rd in the 50m fly.
Redditch Swimming Club’s head coach Chris Britt said: “It is great to see our Masters swimmers performing so well at the European Championships.
“Paul, Laura and Jo have worked hard to achieve their success. I am pretty sure Redditch SC has never had a European champion before, let alone a double winner at this level, so everyone at the club is particularly proud of Paul for his latest achievements.”
