Frustrating league results for duo

Redditch Editorial 1st Sep, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016

IT WAS a largely disappointing weekend for Feckenham and Alcester in the Midland League.

The Millers were beaten in both Division Two games as a 2-0 defeat at Sutton United on Saturday was followed by a 4-3 loss at home to Knowle on Monday.

Town did taste success on Saturday as they ran out 3-0 winners over Boldmere Sports & Social Falcons at Stratford Road in the Les James Challenge Cup, but they were beaten 2-1 at Northfield Town in Division Three two days later.

On Monday Alcester fell behind to a header from a free kick in the first half but deservedly levelled in the second period when Daniel Mumford continued his scoring form by slotting home.

For the second time in the match Steve Nurse went close as the game entered its closing stages, but it was the hosts who bagged the winner when a free kick was converted at the back post.

There was still time for Alcester claims for a penalty when Matt Layton’s goalbound strike hit a defender’s hand, but Danny Janes’ side were left without reward.

Two days previously Town did enjoy Challenge Cup progress.

They took the lead when Luke Grubb’s strike deflected in off Nurse before Layton doubled the advantage before the break when he converted a loose ball.

Mumford completed the scoring with 20 minutes remaining with a thunderous 25-yard strike.

Town host Shipston Excelsior on Saturday.

Feckenham fought hard without reward at Sutton on Saturday. They almost opened the scoring when captain Danny Williams latched on to a superb Max Tibbins through ball but rolled his effort just wide.

Jack Brimmell and Robbie Davies then went close in the second half as the visitors were left scratching their heads as to how they returned home empty-handed.

Late goals from Umit Eminoglu and Jordan Porter were not enough to rescue anything for Aaron Blackwood’s side on Monday against Knowle.

Feckenham’s man of the match Eminoglu also netted in the first half but it was the Robins who took the spoils.

The Millers host Paget Rangers on Saturday.
