Inaugural ten-a-side event proves a big hit

Redditch Editorial 13th Dec, 2016

YOUNGSTERS enjoyed an exciting rugby experience when Kings Norton RFC staged an inaugural ten-a-side tournament for local schools.

The event at the Hopwood club was organised by Tom Pearson, son of Kings Norton RFC president Mark, for year 11 pupils.

The competition, entitled the South Birmingham Area Tens Rugby Gold Cup, was sponsored by Worcester Warriors whose community rugby officer Jon Perks was in attendance.

It gave pupils the chance to experience fast flowing rugby and featured players from three schools – RSA Academy Arrow Vale (Redditch), St George’s School (Edgbaston) and Kings Norton Boys’ School.

This competitive tournament was officiated by North Midlands Society of Rugby Football Referees member John Kelly and it was Kings Norton who emerged victorious.

Plans are now in place to make this an annual event and attract more schools to compete.
