REDDITCH United Ladies moved four points clear at the top of West Midlands Regional Women’s League Division One South as they secured a 10-0 victory against a tenacious Marston Green on Sunday.
The triumph at the Valley extended Gary Barrell’s side’s winning league run to five games, during which time they have kept three clean sheets in four matches.
The hosts made a flying start which saw American Alex Balcer net her first goal on foreign soil and further strikes from Amy Kendall and Katie Edwards soon made it 3-0.
Balcer then scored again to make it 4-0 midway through the first half and by then the outcome was beyond doubt despite the best efforts of the Birmingham side.
Katherine Christopher’s looping volley began the second half scoring before this week’s birthday girl Val Margerum made it 6-0.
Balcer completed her hat-trick before Kendall and Christopher each netted their second goals of the game.
The scoring was completed when player of the match Mari Karina Pastor slid in Sofi Liperis who showed excellent movement before firing home.
Boss Barrell was delighted with his side’s efforts and will be looking for more of the same when the Reds host Coleshill Town on Sunday (2pm).
“The group put in a professional performance that showed great maturity, focus and togetherness,” said Barrell.
“A lot of credit goes to the back line who started a lot of the attacks thanks to great support positions and a willingness to keep the ball on the floor, being patient in possession of the ball.
“It would be great to have a good crowd show up on Sunday to support the girls. It’s free entry for all.”
Redditch are four points above second placed Droitwich who have a game in hand and five above third placed Worcester who have four matches in hand.
