BROMSGROVE & REDDITCH Athletic Club’s youngsters are celebrating after being crowned champions of the Youth Development League (Lower Age Group – U13 and U15) Midland South West Division 2B.

The title success – which saw them finish above local rivals Worcester AC – means the team can look forward to promotion.

The final fixture took place in Gloucester and over the four league fixtures a total of 31 boys and 29 girls have represented the club to gain points in their events.

Six boys and five girls competed in all four fixtures as they took part in 98 individual events and relays between them.

Many personal bests have been recorded over the season as well as three new club records – U13 boys’ 4x100m and U15 boys’ 200m and 300m.

Ten boys and six girls have achieved grade four standards, some in multiple events. Josh Robins achieved a grade three (top 30 per cent in country) over both 800m and 1,500m and Mackenzie Besford recorded a grade three performance over 200m and grade two over 100m (top 15 per cent of country).

Chloe Dockray threw a grade two standard in the discus, whilst Josh Pearson recorded grade one standards over both 200m and 300m.

There was more delight for the club when Josh Pearson was awarded the trophy for the best individual male track performance at the Worcestershire County Championships for his grade one performance and county record over 300m.

Rita Brownlie, B&R club secretary, young athletes coach and one of the YDL team managers, presented Pearson with his trophy in front of some of the young athletes.

Bromsgrove & Redditch AC have already secured the Heart of England League title and are on track to take the Upper Age Group (U17 and U20) Youth Development League title at their final league meeting of the season at Stourport on Sunday.
