Mixed emotions for Millers

Redditch Editorial 4th Jan, 2017

FECKENHAM earned a much-needed 2-0 home victory over Coton Green on Saturday, but were unable to build on it as they were beaten 3-2 at Leamington Hibernian on Monday.

The Millers, who sit 12th in Midland League Division Two, will attempt to bounce back when they host Bloxwich Town on Saturday (2pm) at the Entaco.

On Saturday, Feckenham handed a full debut to 16-year-old central midfielder Sid Hicks who recently arrived from Alvechurch’s flourishing youth team, and the hosts dominated the first half.

They were a whisker away from taking the lead midway through the first half when Jack Brimmell’s shot left the Coton Green keeper floored and Danny Murphy was inches away from tapping home.

However, the breakthrough did arrive before the break when Ben Cox sent a fine 25-yard free kick over the wall and in off the post.

The second half was a more even contest but Feckenham came close to doubling their lead when Rory Tuffin released Cox, but the latter blazed his effort high and wide.

Joe Nokes then had to make a goalline clearance to deny the visitors an equaliser before the hosts made sure of maximum points when Ben Welsh converted neatly from an impressive cut back from Brimmell.
