Plenty of final leg drama

Redditch Editorial 13th Jan, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016

THE SWAN Studley Skittles League game between Alley Cats and Team BG was only decided when Team BG put in a poor last leg score to leave their opponents needing only 53 pins to win, which Alley Cats achieved with ease.

In an otherwise close game, the sides shared the first leg, Team BG led by a single pin after leg two and Alley Cats then held a three-pin advantage after leg three before Team BG made the game all square going into the last leg.

Neil Harrison made 41 (12-stack), Pete Sollis 38 and Anne Harrison and Tony O’Connor 35 each for Alley Cats.

Team BG’s best were Carl Baker 38 (14-stack) and 35 each from Lin Dyer and Ray Cartwright.

Bowling first, Jumbo Jet Set had an 11-pin lead after leg one, only to see it evaporate as Maudslay turned the deficit into a single-pin lead after the second leg.

The sides shared the next leg before Maudslay increased their advantage to eight pins as the teams started the final leg.

Jumbos then put in their poorest leg score of the game to leave Maudslay to cruise home in making the 51 pins to win.

Jumbos’ Rich Johnston made 42 (stacks of 13 and 12) and Pete Battle-Welch and Ben Jones scored 37 each, while for Maudsaly Stu Griffiths totalled 44 (15-stack), Mark Sanseverino 39 and Pete Roberts 37.

Results: Jumbo Jet Set 2.5 (331) Maudslay 8.5 (342); Team BG 3.5 (312) Alley Cats 7.5 (326).
