Redditch Entaco sides have plenty to smile about

Redditch Editorial 23rd Jun, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016

IT WAS a weekend to savour for Redditch Entaco as their first, second and third teams all enjoyed victories.

The first team hold a 37-point advantage over second placed Chaddesley Corbett in Worcestershire League Division Two as they prepare to host Wormelow on Saturday following a 79-run success at bottom of the table Alvechurch & Hopwood.

The Kingfishers made a good recovery to finish on 201-7 off 50 overs as Yassar Altaf made 43 not out and Sam Egan 29 towards the end of the innings after Russell Southwick had earlier continued his good form with 42.

In reply Alvechurch started brightly but the Kingfishers bounced back as a cluster of wickets put the leaders in control and Alvechurch were skittled for just 122.

Captain Adam Markham-Jones led the way with 30 for the hosts but Southwick (3-22), Noman Choudry (2-23) and Tom Field (2-23) sentenced Alvechurch to defeat.

Quick bowler Waqas Ali will lead the Kingfishers this weekend in the absence of skipper Greg Chinn, whilst Alvechurch travel to Worcester Dominies.

Third placed Feckenham face a Division Two home game against Lye on Saturday having suffered a washout at Evesham last weekend.

Redditch Entaco 2nds showed more signs of improvement with a comprehensive seven-wicket victory against visitors Worcester in Division One 2nd XI.

The visitors struggled against the Redditch bowling attack and were bowled out for just 105 with Kevin Lokenath the main destroyer in taking 3-31, whilst Dan Protherough and Warren Bisp chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Redditch lost early wickets but experienced batting from Nick Fowkes (37no) and Protherough (29) saw them move into mid-table.

Geoff Eley takes his side to Pedmore on Saturday.

There was late drama at Entaco as the 3rds sealed their first victory of the Division Five season by beating Enville by six runs.

Stand-in skipper Will Feast inspired an excellent team performance as Redditch scored 163-9 off their 50 overs with Zaheer Ahmed (24) and Tom Hemming (23) leading the way with the bat.

In reply Enville struggled against some accurate bowling as Redditch nibbled away, but an excellent 58 from Dan Sutton kept the visitors in the game.

However, Adam Stokes (4-18) secured victory for the hosts by taking two wickets in the final over as Enville were bowled out for 157.

The 4ths’ fixture at Enville fell victim to the weather and on Saturday the 3rds and 4ths face tough fixtures against Hallow away and home respectively.
