TEAM BG comprehensively ended second placed Alcester Nomads’ ten-game winning run when recording their season’s highest team total in the Swan Studley Skittles League.

This was helped by the team’s highest individual score this season of 50 (including two 15-stacks) from Rob Baker.

Nomads took the first leg narrowly but were 16 adrift after two further legs and never got back on terms as Team BG claimed a big scalp.

Apart from Rob Baker, Ray Cartwright made 37 and Harry Baker 34 for Team BG, while Nomads’ best came from Alan Spreckley with 40, Alan Cummings 37 (16-stack) and Bob Browning 35.

The following night, Maudslay had the opportunity to take advantage of Nomads’ loss and extend their lead over their closest rivals.

However, Maudslay produced their poorest team score of the season against opponents Engineers, who took the opportunity to close the gap on the top two.

This was the lowest scoring game between the sides for many seasons, with major scorers for Engineers being Mark Ganderton with 41 and Pete Clewlow 35 (14-stack).

Maudslay’s main contributions came from Dave Ford 40 (11-stack) and Dick Walters 38.

Jumbo Jet Set completed a comfortable win over Chris & Gerry Show. There was consistent scoring (30 pins or more) by each player for Jumbos, with Mick Stanton making 38, Dave Marriott 37 and Rich Johnston 34.

For C&G Show, Rita Passey made 35, John Hall 34 and Craig Sears 33.

Almost as comfortable was Lodge Farmers’ win against Alley Cats, who are now without a success in four games.

Glyn Morley was in good form for Lodge Farmers with 39 and was backed up by Steve Smith’s 36 and Jason Kirk 34.

Pete Sollis scored 35 and Sam Billyard and Anne O’Connor 33 each for Alley Cats.

Results: Team BG 7.5 points (331 pins) Alcester Nomads 3.5 (316); Maudslay 4 (307) Engineers 7 (315); Chris & Gerry Show 1.5 (284) Jumbo Jet Set 9.5 (324); Lodge Farmers 9.5 (314) Alley Cats 1.5 (296).
